I love bread.
No, you don’t understand. I LOVE BREAD. I’d be happy if I ate nothing but good bread for the rest of my life (well, plus mac and cheese…speaking of, I learned yesterday you can order Panera’s mac and cheese in a BREAD BOWL. Why couldn’t I have learned that before surgery??).
When I moved into stage 2 of soft foods, I was allowed toast. But bread is a trigger food for me, and carbs just inhibit my weight loss like whoa, so I’ve abstained from bread. We’re talking no bread in 6 weeks or more! That’s just… absolutely unheard of.
But someone told me about lindasdietdelites.com which has a ton of low carb products available – including bread! I read the reviews and decided to try ThinSlim Foods Love the Taste Plain Bread. And I got the thin sliced loaf so that two slices have the same macros as one slice of regular sized bread. What can I say? I’m watching my calories and my carbs! (See nutrition information at the end of this post)
The first thing I thought when I opened the box was I paid $8 plus shipping for that tiny loaf??
Remnants of my old food habits… there are 28 slices of bread in the loaf, and they’re about the size of a regular slice of white bread (as far as width and height go – they are very thin sliced). $8 may not be cheap, but it’s a perfectly respectable loaf of bread. Spoiler alert: I think it’s totally worth the $8, especially since I won’t be eating bread every day.
When I opened it, I was greeted by the smell of… bread. Diet food so often smells weird and fake, so I was delighted that this “diet food” smelled like regular bread!
Untoasted bread is too soft and doughy for my new sleeve at this point, so I had to toast it. This is really the only thing that I can’t rave about. The slices are so thin that they toast VERY QUICKLY. I turned my toaster down to between 1 and 2 in anticipation of the thinner bread, but it came out so toasted that it was nearly the consistency of Melba Toast. And it happened so quickly that there was no color on my toast!
So it was pretty dry. I think that can be remedied if I figure out the right setting on my toaster, so don’t let that deter you.
I’m still in a place where I can’t eat much in one sitting (I couldn’t eat my whole mini egg sandwich), but these thin slices are quite filling and absolutely filled that bread-shaped hole in my heart. I’m looking forward to a bit of peanut butter toast this weekend!
Final Verdict: Will definitely buy again
